Telford Park take home advantage to score 6-3:
We eventually got this ‘home’ tie played last Sunday, 26 June, after scheduling problems at Wigmore.
Many thanks to Juliet Griffiths and Telford Park for hosting this for us, for which they were rewarded with a 6-3 win.
But Wigmore did not give in without a struggle and both the men’s and women’s doubles went to three sets with Telford winning the men’s 6-3 3-6 6-4 and Wigmore the women’s 6-4 4-6 6-4.
In the women’s vets, Jenny Dennis (W) and Miranda Kirwan (TP) had a marathon match with the first set alone taking two hours while both Open Singles matches were close too, with all these three matches eventually won by Telford Park.
The men’s vets, the mixed doubles and the juniors were less hard fought – with Wigmore winning the vets and the under 16 girls and Telford Park the boys and the mixed.
Unusually the sun shone all day and Wigmore’s Anne Boucnik provided some delicious food for the ‘home’ tie played ‘away’.
Congratulations to Telford Park for playing so well the morning after their finals day and their summer party!
