With the Davis Cup Trophy on view…
On a busy Sunday, 17 July, when Wigmore was thrown open to the public as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend campaign and the Davis Cup Trophy Tour visited, they also took on Woodfield Grove in the Millennium Cup and won 7-2.
Sharon Goulds provided the following report:
“We had a particularly lovely day for this Millennium Cup tie and Wigmore were hosting the Davis Cup Trophy, and a Tennis Open Day as well as the Woodfield Grove match, so it was a great atmosphere all round.
“Apologies to our guests for the delay in getting this one played.
“The final score was 7-2 to the home team, which included a walkover in the Ladies Vets as Woodfield Grove could not find a player for this one.
“Most of the matches were close with Scarlett Bishop from Woodfield Grove beating Liz Joy in a match tiebreak, and close two-setters in both the men’s and women’s doubles.
“Woodfield Grove sailed to victory in the under 16 girls while Wigmore won the boy’s match with a tightly fought first set, followed by an easier second.
“The men’s open singles was also a tightly-contested two sets.”
